Herbert Wilson Foster provided three illustrations for the 1870 Memorial Edition, as well as the portrait of George Heath. The 1880 edition includes an additional drawing of Mow Cop. I have included these at the relevant points within the online editions of the book. They can also be viewed here alongside more recent photographs of the same places.

In 2017, Aaron John Heath kindly sent me a couple of much clearer (and much larger) photographs of his illustrious ancestor’s grave. Click the pictures below:

I’ve also added some photos of ‘Rudyard Lake’ and ‘The Roches’, places mentioned in George Heath’s poems.

Rudyard Lake

Picture

Lies the lake in tranquil beauty,
     Like a model mimic sea,
Like a brightly polished mirror,
     In a frame of ebony;

The Roches

Beyond, a solemn wave of shaggy heights,
Crowned with the tuft of Roches, glimmered red.

And finally, a couple of maps of the area, courtesy of google.
